Fur Cleaning & Storage
With the spring season coming to an end, it is really important to properly care for your furs. To keep your furs in the best shape possible & maximize the longevity, cleaning and storing your furs every season is recommended. A few tips: Depending on how often you wear your fur garments, we especially emphasize on the cleaning. If you are sporting your fur on a regular, cleaning it annually to get rid of pollution, oils and dirt will revive the fur and make it look like new. As for cold storage, if you didn’t get the chance to store your furs, make sure to leave them in a dark & cold space.
What we don’t recommend are cedar closets. Although cedar is a great way to protect your items from pests, it actually dehydrates the leather over time! Incorporating a few cedar balls into your cold space (instead of those smelly mothballs) will help!
FUR STORAGE
After a long seasons use, your furs definitely need to be rejuvenated and stored in a cool environment with governed humidity levels, to prevent the premature drying of the pelt, preserving the natural oils in the skins. Charisma Furs encompasses a special storage vault that protects your garments from moths, fire and theft during the non-wear seasons. Cleaning, glazing, and storing are available for all your furs, liners, leathers and shearlings.
Fur Storage Facts: A fur coat exposed to heat and humidity will be slightly stiffer as it ages, since its leather has lost some of its natural oils and dried out a bit. Eventually this drying will lead to cracking of the leather and excessive fur loss due to shedding. Protect yourinvestment, store your coat with a professional furrier every summer.
FUR CLEANING
With over 30 years of expertise in the industry, Charisma Furs encourages the cleaning of your furs regularly. Depending on how often you wear your furs and so forth, we recommend cleaning them once a year, or at least every two years. Fur that is exposed to heat and humidity will be slightly stiffer as it ages. The natural oils dry out and will eventually lead to cracking of the leather and excessive fur loss due to shedding. Cleaning your furs will protect and restore the natural lustre of the fur and wool by removing any dirt, salt and oil that can accumulate during a normal season’s use.

Fur Cleaning Facts: The special fur cleaning process also adds longevity of your fur, makes it soft and supple, conditions the leather and rids the fur of dust that robs your fur of its sheen. The hairs become fluffy, so the coat looks new again. Sometimes your fur might not look dirty, but it is. Dirt gets trapped into the oils near the leather base of the fur, where it makes the hairsstick together and causes a matted appearance. Annual cleaning is a necessity even just makeup and dust can rob your fur of its luster and sheen. Fur also absorbs smells, such as those coming from your kitchen if your coat closet is nearby. The cleaning and conditioning process revitalizes it. Cleaning and glazing replace some of the oils in the leather, so the fur does not become stiff.
We also have perfected a cleaning process for all fur-lined fabrics. Our expert cleaners will expertly maintain your lined and trimmed coats. Linings and shells will be expertly restored to their original beauty. Remember, furs must be cleaned and glazed each year as the back of the pelt is leather that must be moisturized annually in order to prevent cracking and drying. Even when the fur looks good on the outside, it needs care on the inside.
Glazing is a process of bringing out the natural luster and sheen of a fur after it has been cleaned. It involves a steaming and ironing process that will vary with each type of fur. Glazing will restore the life, luster and beauty of your garment.
